    Hey thanks for this video. I tried adjusting the guide screw under that plastic and like you I wasn’t able to get the right result. I also spent an hour trying various power settings, and I also looked closely at the shooter fork to make sure it was moving smoothly and making even contact with the ball. Nothing helped. I’m definitely trying your solution next and I am sure it’ll work. Thank you again!

    Buddy & I launched a homemade rocket, with a mustard container cap as nosecone, back in the 70’s. Had ridden our bikes to a local park, but forgot the launchpad guide rod. Laid the rocket on it’s side and lit the fuse, figuring the rocket would scoot along the parking lot and crash into the curb on the other side. Darn thing was about 5 ft off the ground when it cleared that curb… flew out of the park, across a street and that hard plastic nosecone embedded into the aluminum siding of a house. Few seconds later, ejection charge goes off. Smoking rocket stuck into the side of a house. We did what any 16-yr old would do… yelled “oh shit”, hopped on our bikes, and scrammed! 🤣

    Why does the rocket have to break apart into three pieces? Can’t you just pop the nose cone and deploy the main?

    • @flyfalcons
      @flyfalcons Месяц назад

      The purpose of dual deploy is to allow the rocket to come down quickly from altitude, while also slowing it for a safe landing. This reduces how far the rocket drifts from the launch pad.

      It was a loooooong wait, I ordered the wing kit last Spring, then Fisher got purchased by CKD Aero and moved their operation to a bigger warehouse, then I met Dave Hertner at Oshkosh and he convinced me to save thousands in crating fees by ordering the fuselage kit as well. With all that, my wing and fuselage kits finally arrived several weeks ago.

    The saddest one i witnessed was in about 1989, in an elective high school rocketry class... My friend built the large Estes 1380 Phoenix model; he put so much work into it and it turned out beautiful... But on class launch day, when it was time for it to make its maiden flight, it suffered a catastrophic engine failure when the presumably defective Estes D engine exploded instead of properly igniting. I think it only made it partway up the launch rail when the motor blew up, completely shredding half of the lower section of the rocket (it blew the whole side out).

    One of my earliest memories was in 1959 or 1960 where my father flew the family from Ellsworth AFB to T.E. Green Airport in Providence, R.I. We fell out of the skies in a downdraft that the anemic Franklin engine couldn't compensate for. We were evidently close to a rural airstrip and landed in ground effect at a small rural airport in the mountains of Pennsylvania, allowing me to eventually into the senior citizen I am today.

Frankly, I thought that when NASA got out of rockets as they were intended and into the space shovel that model rocketry would go the way of the carrier pigeon. I see I may have been a trifle mistaken...although, it seems to have all fled about far west and norf as possible. Jeez! Dadgummit. I know ya'll had ALL the fun. My rocket building days are done.
